Welcome to Truth and Cents
Uncommon sense for common mistakes with money.
Don’t Burn Your Return
Benjamin Franklin said there were only two things certain in life: death and taxes. The other certainty, is that for most recipients, the money will be gone almost immediately after they receive it. According to a 2019 tax return study by NRF, 65% of Americans will spend their returns on vacations, large purchases, or even…

The Money Mind

Truth and Cents
I have spent the last two decades working inside the largest financial institutions in the world. For too long I have watched people struggle to manage their money; eventually losing hope, and giving up on their dreams. Frustrated by this, I have set out on a mission to help people understand and manage their finances, empower them to achieve their goals, and renew their hope in the American dream again.
Truth and Cents is all about breaking down important financial concepts in a way that is simple and easy to understand. I will share insights from my experience inside the financial industry, and from my own financial journey. It is transparent, authentic, and sometimes even cringeworthy. You will experience my proudest moments, and my heartbreaking lows. But most importantly, you will learn how to avoid disastrous financial mistakes and change your financial trajectory.
My experience, working in these “too-big-to-fail” institutions, has opened my eyes to a glaring need in our society; the need to advance our efforts in providing financial education to everyone. The signs are all around us if you pay attention. Student loan debt, credit card debt, and little to no savings, are all financial barriers that prevent us from getting ahead. In fact, for the first time in history, our generation is on track to earn less over their lifetime than our parents. But the problem is even larger than we can imagine.
40% of Americans do not believe that their household plans ahead financially1.
64% of Americans say that money is a source of stress2.
42% of Americans have no financial plan or budget to help them manage their spending3.
These statistics are scary, but they also point to a deeper, more frightening truth; that many Americans are either giving up on, or believe, that the American dream is no longer attainable.
The truth is that the American dream is alive and well, and opportunity is all around us. Our financial condition prevents us from taking leaps of faith to reach those dreams. In order to be successful financially, we must first equip ourselves with knowledge and truth. Once we are open to learning, the path to understanding becomes visible. Picture yourself taking that first step on the path to financial awareness and empowerment. Learn, stretch yourself, and commit to discovering your own Truth and Cents.
